Shakepay
Shakepay is a Canadian Bitcoin exchange that offers one of the easiest and fastest ways to buy Bitcoin in the country. In most cases, the entire process takes about 30 minutes, although sometimes it may take a little longer. For this reason, we highly recommend completing at least up to Step 3 before hiring any of our services to avoid delays or unexpected issues.
1 Download the app
Start by downloading and installing the Shakepay app on your phone. You can find it in the official iOS or Android app store under the name "Shakepay: Buy Bitcoin Canada", or simply click one of the images below:
2 Sign up
Once the app is installed, it’s time to create your account.
The registration process is simple and works just like signing up for any other website or app. Simply follow the instructions that appear on your screen.
After creating your account, Shakepay will ask you to verify your identity. This means you will need to upload a photo of your ID and complete a short "liveness test", which is a quick selfie video to confirm that you are the real owner of the ID. Just follow the steps shown in the app. The process is automatic and usually takes only a few minutes.
Once this is done, your account will be fully verified and ready to use.

Identity verification is required by law. As a legally registered company (FINTRAC #M17065696 / AMF #904007), Shakepay must follow anti-money-laundering (AML) and anti-terrorism financing regulations. Your reason for buying Bitcoin remains private. Bitcoin transactions are anonymous and cannot be traced back to us. However, Shakepay must verify that the money you use comes from your own bank account or card, and not from someone else. This is a legal requirement and does not affect your privacy.
3 Add funds
To buy Bitcoin, you must first add Canadian Dollars to your Shakepay account. After that, you will be able to exchange those dollars for Bitcoin.
To add funds to your account, follow these steps:
- Log into the Shakepay app.
- Tap "Add" on the home screen.
- Select "Interac e-Transfer®".
- Tap the "Request" tab at the top.
- Enter the amount you want to deposit.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to connect with your bank and complete the deposit.
Once you send the e-Transfer, your funds should appear in your Shakepay account within a few minutes.
4 Purchase Bitcoin
When your funds show up in your Shakepay account, you can exchange them for Bitcoin.
Follow these steps:
- Open the Shakepay app and log in.
- Tap the blue arrows icon at the bottom center.
- Enter the amount of Bitcoin you want to buy (usually the same amount you deposited).
- Tap "Review Order".
- Tap "Buy Bitcoin".
Congratulations! You have successfully exchanged your Canadian Dollars for Bitcoin.
5 Make the payment
You can safely keep your Bitcoin inside your Shakepay account until it is time to make your payment. When you are ready, you will need to send those Bitcoins to our Bitcoin address.
If you already have an order with us, you can find our Bitcoin address in the Order Tracking area. If you do not have an order yet and want to make an upfront payment, you can contact us and we will provide our Bitcoin address to you.
To send Bitcoin from your Shakepay account, follow these steps carefully:
- Open the Shakepay app.
- Tap "Bitcoin".
- Tap "Send".
- Tap the address field and paste our Bitcoin address.
- Enter the amount you want to send.
- Tap "Continue".
- Tap "Speed" and choose "Fast".
- Tap "Send".
Done! Your Bitcoin has been sent to our wallet.
